Championship Meet & End of Year Party Information

Y-City swimmers and parents: it’s that time of year again when we all get excited to compete in the city championships. For those of you attending the meet for the first time, this is our longest (and most confusing) but fun meet of the year. The warm-ups begin on Friday the 25th at 3:15 pm and the meet will being at 3:45. Saturday warm-ups begin at 8:15am and the meets starts at 8:45. We only have one lane for warm ups and they are only a half hour, so we suggest getting there early so you will have room to warm-up. We also suggest arriving early in the day in order to get a spot to sit. With over 500 swimmers it will be very crowded. The team is getting a large tent outside for the team to sit together but space is still limited with 120 swimmers on the team. If you can, try to sit near the tent!

We have already started to sign up all of our swimmers and this is the only week when we can make changes. This Thursday (July 16th) will be the last time we can make any changes to the events swimmers are entered in. If you need to change something after that point, there is nothing we can do. Please make sure you tell us what you want this week. Also the championship meet has an entry fee to pay for awards and to rent the pool and a tent. All swimmers swimming in the meet must pay coaches $5.00 by Monday the 20th or you will not be allowed to swim at the meet. (All individual swimmers, not families)

Also, for the meet we need to supply two timers at all times (4 timers per day), two stroke and turn judges at all times ( 4 per day) and we are running the seating area/ bull pen both days. We cannot compete if we do not have these positions filled in advance. There will be posters for parents to sign up during practice times. If you can fill one or more of these positions please let us know as soon as possible. We need to have all spots filled by Wednesday the 22nd.

Lastly, relays for the championship are done solely on times. We have spent much time comparing times to put together the fastest relays to compete at the meet. Once the relays are made no changes can be made unless a swimmer does not show up for their relay. If you’re on a relay, let a coach know if you’re going to be absent in advance so the coaches can arrange a replacement.

Finally the end of the year party will be at 6:00pm, at the YMCA, Saturday after the meet. At the party we will be swimming and having a great time. Ice Cream will be provided and swimmers will receive awards, medals, and team pictures during the awards ceremony. We encourage all swimmers and families to come even if you are not attending the championship.

Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call one of the coaches.

New Coach!!!

Y-City Is happy to announce the coming back of one of last years favorite coaches, Erin Wantulok to the 2009 coaching staff. Not only has Erin been a coach for Y-City and the Blue Marlins in the past, she has also been a long time swimmer on the team as well. Along with her very successful Y-City career, Erin was also a terrific high school swimmer for Centennial High School for the past four years being a state qualifier and a letterman all four years she competed. From all of us, we hope that you can find time to welcome Erin back to the team and show her how much we are happy to have her back onto our wonderful coaching staff that works so hard to make this team what it is.

Volunteers

Attention Y-City parents! Y-City is hosting it's first meet on Tuesday, June 16th, and we are still in need of parent volunteers! If you are able to volunteer, please sign up on the posters during practice times or contact one of the coaches. Thank you in advance to all of our awesome volunteers! Swim meets could not happen without you!

Please feel free to leave any questions, comments, or concerns. The coaches will be leaving weekly updates to provide you with as much information as possible. Thanks!

Newsletter 1

Welcome to the 2009 summer swim team season! Here are some announcements and reminders for the coming weeks:

Practice on Friday, June 12th will be a team bonding and shirt decorating day. This year we are tye-dying the team shirts. We will meet at the normal practice time in the bleachers before heading outside to start the fun. Swimmers should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty and bring their suits in case tye-dying does not take the full practice time. Shirts and tye-dying supplies will be provided.

Parent volunteers are always needed. Our swim team and swim meets could not happen without the wonderful parent volunteers! If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact one of the coaches or sign up on one of the posters by the pool during practices. Thank you in advance to all of the volunteers! We appreciate your help!

For those interested in volunteering as a stroke or turn judge this season, all judges are required to attend a Stroke and Turn Clinic, Saturday June 13th. The clinic will take place at Fairmont Pool at 10:00 am. For directions or more information feel free to contact the coaches.

Swim meets are almost here! Here is the meet schedule as a reminder. If swimmers are unable to attend a meet please let the coaches know in advance! Meets start at 5:00 pm but swimmers must be at the pool at 4:15 pm for warm-ups. And remember, swimmers must stay for the relays and participate in at least 2 meets in order to swim at the Championship meet.
